Today is historic… 6/14/25
Today, June 14th, 2025, is a historic day. Why? Because today Americans had a choice.
A choice to be real patriots. To stand up for our constitution. For the rights our forefathers demanded and prayed for generations beyond them to have. Freedom.
Or to sit idly by watching the person who is supposed to speak for, represent, and acknowledge the people of his country, throw a dictator’s parade for himself in the name of our great military. If you see this for anything other than his own celebration of absolute power, you are heartbreakingly naive.
America has historically been the land of the free and home of the brave.
But here we are. Two-thousand and twenty-five years into modern existence and we are regressing to barbaric ways. Where people are snatched from the streets. Families are torn apart. No justice is served or laws abided by. This is true chaos.
If laws, regulations, and court decisions are not abided by then this can no longer be America. We are no longer free or governed by the brave.
Today, as I photographed the hundreds of protestors, I considered what will happen when I have children. In years prior, I decided I would homeschool my children. This often gets a bad rap (in my generation anyway) because it makes kids weird or anti-social. But truthfully, I fear what my children would learn in school. Who will be governing our nation then? What will our history books say?
Today is historic. But will it be portrayed the way it should be? A day in which Americans marched peacefully against a tyrant in search of validation for his fragile ego? For a party steadfast on kidnapping and disappearing American citizens just because their skin isn’t white? A delusional faction of poorly informed Americans who think this self-proclaimed dictator has their best interests in mind?
Will history be told as it actually was? History has and should always teach us what not to do. History books should show us who led us towards equailty and freedom and who inhibited it. When my children read a history book I want them to read that deporting American citizens without due process is WRONG. I want them to read that the Civil Rights Movements was a step in the right direction. I want my children to know that America fought for the environment, the health of their country, and were on the side of growth and evolution that created space for people and the world to grow.
I understand Capitalism, it’s one of the foundational things that makes America a place of opportunity. However, profit should never be placed above human life and well being.
We are the land of the free and home of the brave. And today was a historic day.
Because the real patriots of this country stepped up with signs, speeches, and confidence to make clear that we do NOT stand with the tyrant in office.
We are Americans who stand with the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence that states, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
So stand tall. Because we are on the right side of history.
